Transfer Day
Na(e)tGEO Games - Pupils` Edition officially in Madeira.
On May 8, the students with their teachers set off on another adventure thanks to the Erasmus + program. This time the direction of Portugal and its autonomous region - the island of Madeira, the pearl of the Atlantic. After almost 20 hours of travel, a few hours nap, there was a time to get to know the island. We took the first steps to the coast of Funchal, then the roller coaster to Mount Monte and a visit to the botanical garden, which is full of endemic species of plants and animals. Then rest, shopping in La Vie and evening "talks". It was a good day full of sunshine new experiences and interesting people.
Day 1
May 10, is the date when our Erasmus + Na(e)tGEO project at the EB1 / PE Ilhéus school in Funchal officially started. After a warm welcome, the students visited the school building and went to work.
First some theory about the geography and history of the island, then working in groups to create quizzes on Wardwall for the others. There was also time to wander around the Minecraft version of Funchal and get the tasks done. In the afternoon students went for a long walk around the oldest part of the island to see Funchal in evening colors.
Day 2
Another day and more meetings with the culture and customs present in Madeira. The challenge of the day was to learn to play a four-stringed instrument called the braguinha, older and smaller than the well-known ukulele. The workshops were conducted by the school's stringed instrument instructor. Finally, the international 'orchestra' played the most popular song sung by the locals 'Bailinho da Madeira'.
Day 3
The third day of the Madeira project was devoted to workshops. This time children participated in artistic workshops, the aim of which was to make two dolls related to regional folklore.
Students made dolls of salt dough based on corn flour and multi-colored yarn. The workshops were accompanied by stories about history and customs related to the region. The workshops were led by art instructors from the local teacher training center.
Day 4
The project Friday was spent in really high mountains, in the northern part of the island, where you could follow the track of Levada Welha trail. to the viewpoint. Then another experience in so called fairy-tale village of Santana to see the characteristic little thatched houses. Finally, a delicious lunch and a visit to a theme park that combines the history, science and traditions of the island. The walk in the park was possible only with a map of the place, with its strategic points. Students were supposed to follow the route to see and experience all the attractions of the park. The evening dinner was served starring a typical Madeira dish 'espetada'.
Day 5
The fifth day marks an end of the Na(e)tGEO project. The project ended with a final field game using the application for scanning QR codes. The international competition took place at an altitude of about 1400m above sea level, in a protected reserve of nature. Students randomly created five groups, and had to find hidden treasures, complete tasks, take photos and solve the final quiz. There was a lot of running and a lot of laughter. After the event there was a time for a delicious lunch and the handing out of certificates. Obrigado;)
